Celebration of the Arts - For several years a diverse and large committee of creative people has planned the unique and popular July event that brings from 600-800 visitors to view the artwork of talented Georgetown artists.  Skills and interests of all kinds are needed for this major event particularly computer graphics and help in raising the big tents. We welcome all kinds of talent - mental, physical and artistic.

Community Programs This is the energetic group that plans and coordinates our monthly community programs. The programs are usually scheduled for the third Tuesday night of the month from April through October but, with more help, the committee would like to schedule events throughout the year. Won’t you join in and bring your good ideas to help grow our programming?

Finance Someone has to keep track of the “bottom line” and these are the folks who, along with the Treasurer, plan and oversee the annual budget, recommend financial policies, and manage the Society’s investments.   You don’t have to be a financial wizard to join this group but having an appreciation for getting good value for dollars spent is helpful.  Wearing green eye visors and Bob Cratchett gloves not required.

Library and Museum The members of this committee have a BIG job.  We’ve been in our wonderful new Center only a short time and there’s much to be done.  This group works with the Curator to manage the archival materials, other collections, and the research library. The large new Exhibit and Event Room means that revolving exhibits need to be planned and installed several times per year. Currently we’re open to the public on a part-time basis.  With more volunteers we can be open more hours to share all the wonderful things in our collections and our library (where we don’t make you whisper).

Membership - Ever wonder who puts those “Don’t Let Your Tide Go Out” stickers on your copy of The Georgetown Tide?  Give the credit to these folks for making sure you don’t miss a single issue of your favorite bi-monthly journal. Membership dues are what fund most of the GHS operating budget and we’re always looking for new ways to get the word out that a GHS membership is a great value.

Research and Publications Oral history interviews, historical research, publication development, the GHS web site, and managing The Georgetown Tide are some of the things on this Committee’s agenda. Technology is changing and so is GHS as we transition to new ways to make history (which is anything that happened before this moment!) come alive.
